You may still be able to get in one last extraordinary meal on the cheap with this year’s Dine Around Seattle when you visit a participating local restaurant. We’d like to thank the Seattle Good Business Network for making the sinfully good selections attainable to a wider spectrum of fine folks with a taste for quality. The way it works is local restaurants who typically source local farms, wine suppliers, etc. will offer select menu items at a decently reduced rate. They’ll offer two, three and four menu selections for $22, $33 or $44. We like to make work up our appetites before such an outing so we stock up at Fremont’s finest weed shops, and the evening turns into Dab and Dine Around Seattle.
As devoted fans of the Dab and Dine Around Seattle program, we can tell you it’s a great way to sample the menu of many higher-end chefs. It’s like an indulgence but without the painful price tag. Take for instance, xtBallard’s Porkchop & Co, who have a flair for fun food that is locally sourced. Not all participating restaurants include an adult beverage with their menu of 3 choices, but Porkchop and Co. does. There’s a Chai Old Fashioned with Elijah Craig bourbon or a nice glass of Rioja. Or, choose the Fremont Bonfire Winter Ale, which everything goes down better with. There’s also a seasonal soup or a kale salad and for the grand finale, try the Ricotta Cavatelli but don’t be surprised when they serve you winter luxury pumpkins with escarole, brown butter and porcini broth!
We love this. We don’t always know what the ingredients are but we know each time we’ve ordered, even with ingredients alien to us, we’ve savored every bite. If you’re going to go through with this, may we suggest a quick stop en route for some Fremont Weed at Have A Heart. Do yourself a favor and browse the Have A Heart Greenwood Marijuana Menu now so you know what’s in stock. For a party like this, we say, “Yes, bring on the munchies, please.”
Did we say munchies? You’ll need your appetite for your visit to Bramling Cross. Right on Ballard, this gastropub offers over 50 kinds of beer and cider with 8 on draught. The Bramling Cross’s offering is unique in that they serve a boatload of food to everyone at the table as part of the first course and you still get to choose from many divine options for your second (entrée) course and third (desert) course. But that first course is something special. You get: Homemade pretzels with beer mustard, olive oil poached albacore with Calbrian Chilies, fresh herbs and crostini. There’s an escarole salad, “hot wings” fried oysters, and roasted squash. Not too shabby. Ready for Round 2? Right about now you’re happy you went to stock up at your favorite Fremont weed shop. It may be a good time to duck out for some air.
Because you’re about to get hit with a second course which is your choice among: Bramling Burger, ½ Dynamite Fried Chicken, Tagliarini (Penn Cove mussels) or Pan-roasted local rockfish. For the sweet tooth among us, you’ll be happy to select from desert menu choices that include: vanilla bean panna cotta, dark chocolate terrine or sorbetto (shortbread cookie).
Good lord, if you make it through all that, we’d say you maybe had a little assistance from a little helper from Have a Heart Greenwood! Hurry up and grab this year’s last seats of Dab and Dine Around Seattle. You don’t want to wait a whole year. Instead, review all restaurants and choose the time and place that works best for you here.
