With wintertime comes a plethora of holiday activities and excitement, as snow begins to fall and cheer settles in. In the Davenport area, there are tons of Quad Cities events taking place this winter and to fill your afternoon with delight. Here are a few event recommendations to help make your holiday season merry and bright.
Quad Cities Events for Winter Cheer
Quad Cities Advent Calendar
A special attraction in the Quad Cities, the Advent Calendar at the German-American Heritage Center in Davenport lights up a new window every day through the month of December, eventually building to a crescendo of colors that dazzles the eye and warms the spirit.
Visit frequently to see new holiday images, or come for the final display on Christmas Eve. Each design has been specially made by 7th graders from the local Creative Arts Academy, ensuring that your presence is appreciated to support the hard work these children do in putting on a spectacular show that makes Davenport in December a memorable place to visit. Make sure to check out “Twas the Night Before Weihnachten: A German Christmas Story” while you’re there!
Art of the Midwest
There’s no better place to experience classic art of Midwestern America than Iowa, the heart of the Midwest. The Figge Art Museum currently hosts classics of the genre from famous American artists originating in states like Ohio, Minnesota, Illinois and Wisconsin, making for a must-see exhibit dedicated to all who harbor the Midwestern spirit in their hearts.
Grant Wood, Thomas Hart Benton, and other seminal artists from the region are all displayed in pristine condition at the monumental Figge building. The Art of the Midwest exhibit makes for an important and quaintly relevant Quad Cities event for any tourist or resident of the area.
Discovery Dome: The Great Planet Adventures
Prepare for an interstellar journey like you’ve never witnessed in your life. The Discovery Dome, located in Davenport’s Putnam Museum, places participants in the middle of the solar system, looping around the various planetary bodies in a rapid, roaring adventure. From Mercury to Pluto, the breadth of our region of the galaxy is explored through immersive graphics. It doesn’t get more fascinating than this in the Quad Cities area!
Winter Nights, Winter Lights
Starting December 12th at the Quad City Botanical Center, a festival of lights takes place to honor the holiday season and provide everyone with pleasant memories this Christmas. Thousands of lights adorn the already stunning outdoor garden making for a gorgeous winter walkway that consistently delights the eye, perfect for impressing friends or a significant other.
At the end of the garden path, warmth and cookies await in the Botanical Center’s special hot-chocolate bar, available until January 6th. The Quad City Botanical Center blends Christmas cheer and the glory of nature like never before to create a unique, and hopefully snowy, attraction.
We hope you enjoy these fun Quad Cities events and have a peaceful holiday season!
