We love living and working in Coalinga, “The Sunny Side of the Valley!” While the town may not qualify as a major metropolis, there are a few special things to get excited about: The annual Balloon Rally and the Horned Toad Derby, for a start. And believe it or not, there’s an exciting and diverse range of restaurants in Coalinga to choose from. They’re the perfect antidote for the munchies, which we take full responsibility for inspiring with our breathtaking selection of cannabis products. So without further ado, here’s a sampling of our favorite restaurants in Coalinga, CA!
High Dining: Restaurants in Coalinga, CA
Harris Ranch Express BBQ
24553 W Dorris Ave
Coalinga, CA 93210
(559) 404-5894
Harris Ranch is a local landmark in and of itself, laying out Western-style charm and hospitality in a stellar and luxuriant setting. So it’s no wonder that its dining options are worthy of closer review.
But the “Express BBQ,” a recent addition to the Ranch’s selection of restaurants in Coalinga, is a more casual (and equally delicious) option. You lose the opulent ranch-themed dining room experience (and the prizefighter-sized steaks), but in return, there’s a menu stuffed full of smoky barbecue classics.
Slow-cooked tri-tip, crisp-edged brisket, brown sugar-glazed baby back ribs, and chipotle-dusted chicken compete for table space, and all these proteins and more are also available in various sandwich, salad, and taco-delivered options. Seating is limited to the great outdoors, but on sunny days—which is most days—it’s hard to beat this satisfying dining experience.
Me-n-Ed’s Pizzeria
285 E Elm Ave
Coalinga, CA 93210
(559) 935-1748
This casual chain has made plenty of fans in Coalinga and beyond by serving up hot, tasty, and dependable slices, whole pies, calzones, and sandwiches. No gimmicks when it comes to toppings like Italian-style sausage and fresh veggies, though purists may scoff at the option of white-garlic Alfredo sauce instead of regular tomato. Add a well-stocked salad bar and you’re most of the way there to a fast, fun, family-style meal right in the heart of Coalinga.
Los Reyes
257 E Elm Ave
Coalinga, CA 93210
(559) 934-1022
Like many of our favorite taquerias, there’s little to indicate Los Reyes is anything special. But humble though the decor may be, inside this low-slung, adobe-style restaurant you’ll find killer renditions of Mexican favorites like chiles relleños, tamales, and of course, steaming-hot tacos piled high with proteins like carne asada, pork al pastor, and noteworthy garlic-smothered shrimp.
Campus Drive-In
660 E Elm Ave, Coalinga, CA 93210
(559) 935-1127
Like many beloved landmarks, the exterior of the Campus Drive-In is unpromising at best. But inside you’ll find delicious, nostalgic favorites like grilled burgers and tri-tip, plus old-timey crinkle-cut fries and thick milkshakes. The biggest downside may be the limited seating during busy hours which—given the Drive-In’s popularity—is often.
New Hong Kong
280 Van Ness St
Coalinga, CA 93210
(559) 935-8888
Another well-loved institution, New Hong Kong features an outsized menu for a Chinese restaurant in Coalinga. Kung pao and salt-and-pepper chicken are reliably savory, and toothsome chow mein noodles come studded with favorites like bok choy and slivers of barbecued pork. The massive portions don’t hurt either — unless perhaps you try and finish them in one sitting!
