Freddy’s Fuego: Adapting the Microbrewery Model to the World of Cannabis
Nestled into scenic Liberty Bay, a narrow inlet West of the greater Puget Sound, Poulsbo wasn’t much associated with the cannabis world until 2017, when Freddy’s Fuego opened for business. The idea was simple: Adapting the style of the superlative microbreweries that characterize the Pacific Northwest’s beer scene to a cannabis growing operation.
This meant scaling the traditional 8-light growing room used by many independent producers into a 24-light form. Freddy’s Fuego ended up building 8 such rooms into a spacious warehouse facility. Multiple rooms enable the company to keep up a nearly continuous harvest cycle. This makes for long workdays, but also guarantees that high-quality flower is rolling down the pike at any point in the month. It’s a safe bet that more are currently in the works; one area of the Freddy’s grow facility is a research-and-development room dubbed the “Secret Garden.”
Speaking of that flower, Freddy’s Fuego employs an extended curing schedule to squeeze all the terpene intensity out of their carefully coddled buds. Last year, the company also inaugurated an extraction facility, from which they now produce hash oils and other concentrates.
Freddy’s Fuego: Standout Strains

Density is the keyword here: Once you pry open this strain’s resinous nuggets, you’ll be rewarded by a sweet, spicy aroma with floral hints. The flavor lingers on as you enjoy a strong body buzz in tandem with a heavy (but not groggy) cerebral effect.
Sin Mint Cookies
This strain will beguile you with light frosty green hues, speckled with deep purple highlights. The aroma is sweet sugar cookies, and the experience even sweeter. Freddy’s Fuego describes this as a “crisp sweet smoke” that imparts a heady, long-lasting buzz for hours.
Han Solo Burger
This strain is often described as “deep” and “sumptuous,” leaving the consumer satisfied “like a cheeseburger after a hard day’s work.” The body buzz is potent yet unchallenging, allowing you to relax while crossing things off your list. The cerebral effects are similar: Happy but not overwhelming. We also love it for its very clean and piney aroma.
