Can You Mix Cannabis Strains?

By Diane

Mixing different strains together to produce a blend of different effects is a fairly common way of consuming cannabis. Mixing cannabis strains can be a positive experience for both recreational and medical smokers. Because the high produced by cannabis is dependent on the cannabinoids and terpenes contained in each strain, mixing certain strains can provide unique experiences. Plus, mixing cannabis strains will alter their taste and flavor, allowing you to come up with combinations that better fit your preferences.

Why Should You Be Mixing Cannabis Strains?

The primary reasons why people mix cannabis strains is because they wish to produce a unique high or to experience very specific effects. Blending strains together allows smokers to make the most out of something called ‘the entourage effect’.

Beginning in the 1960s, researchers began to find that cannabinoids like THC and CBD could not be fully utilized unless they were consumed in conjunction with other cannabinoids and terpenes. When different cannabinoids are consumed at the same time, they work together in synergy to produce very different effects than just consuming isolated cannabinoids like THC and CBD on their own.

You can make the most of this effect by mixing your cannabis strains together. By allowing the cannabinoids and terpenes of different strains to blend together, you can produce more unique effects.

For recreational users, this means having more control over their high. Fusing strains together gives smokers a better chance to produce the exact effects and sensations they seek.

For medical users, mixing cannabis strains means having more control over their treatment. Mixing indica flowers with some sativas, or a sativa-leaning hybrid, can lessen the intensity of unwanted effects.

What Kinds of Strains Should You Be Mixing?

Many smokers prefer to mix strains with varying qualities and characteristics. For instance, the anxiety that is sometimes associated with very strong sativas can be effectively avoided by blending them with a bit of indica flower.

When blending strains together, you should pay careful attention to ratio. Mixing the same amount of a pure indica with a pure sativa will produce perfectly balanced effects. While this may be interesting, in reality, you could just consume a balanced hybrid strain and accomplish the same thing. Instead, most people prefer to blend strains in such a way so as to achieve or avoid very specific effects.

What Are Some Good Combinations of Strains To Mix?

Sour Diesel & OG Kush

These strains blend very well together because they both produce a range of very intense effects. Combining these two high-THC strains will result in an incredibly intense mind and body experience.

Blueberry & Bubblegum

These two great flavor profiles can be successfully blended to create an incredible one. While the high these strains produce is fairly balanced and not particularly intense, the taste and smell of this mix is a delight for the senses.

Afghan Kush & Jack Herer

Mixing a pure indica like Afghan with a bit of a strong sativa like Jack Herer can give you the head high of Herer with the calming effect of Kush.

I didn't even know it was a thing until I experimented tonight! I decided to Google it and your article popped up. I mixed 50/50 purple wizard and frozen dessert. I'm in heaven, literally I hear singing, I'm flying and soaring! It's a trip. I'll be doing this mix again. Seriously so very delicious. I grew the purple wizard myself and took it to 50% amber trichomes. The stuff has a punch, it's strong! The frozen dessert was a dispensary, it was kind of over dry. That's why I mixed in the first place. I added my sticky icky home-grown to the dry dispensary crap and viola! A literal dream was born.

Another good combo of strains are Crescendo #11 and Strawberry Cough 50/50 split in volume or weight. Will still allow you to get things done with a maximum amount of pain and/or anxiety relief. A MUST TRY REGARDLESS!! 👌

Please try this simple combo of GG#4 or any Gorilla Glue variant really AND Cinderella 99 /or White Widow. These effects combined match exactly the type of entourage effect that a high tolerance daily pain person looks for, and desires. I’m about to try Platinum Sour Diesel mixed evenly with some Zombie Kush! Cheers ;)

I have been blending strains since rec flower was legal in Mass, Tonight my mix consists of Big Bud a great strain if you enjoy creepers that hit hard, smackin my first time trying it, and peanut butter breath. All 3 are heavy indica hybrid strains. Big bud is actually a veteran it survived the war on drugs.
